During the period of 02-06 July 2018, the Moldovan delegation consisting of the representatives of the Office for Prevention and Fight against Money Laundering, the National Bank of Moldova and the General Prosecutor's Office attended the 56th Plenary Meeting of the MONEYVAL Committee of the Council of Europe, which took place in Strasbourg, French Republic.
At the mentioned meeting, were presented the progress reports of Bulgaria, Croatia, Poland, Slovakia and the Republic of Montenegro, placed under intensive monitoring procedures.
At the same time, the assessment reports of Latvia and Albania were adopted. Concerning Latvia, Moneyval's decision was to report on the made progress at the Plenary Meeting in December 2019, being placed ex officio in a simplified monitoring procedure, and regarding Albania, the decision was to adopt the Assessment Report under the quality and consistency review procedure.
Representatives of the Moneyval Secretariat and evaluation teams provided practical recommendations on how to prepare for all stages of the evaluation process and the lessons learned from the first 9 assessments conducted in 5th round.
As well, was proposed to discuss the 4th round follow-up reports of Macedonia, Liechtenstein and Romania and the 5th round progress reports of Armenia and the Isle of Man.
The Committee also presented and held discussions on the role of the Financial Intelligence Units in corruption investigations and the use of virtual money in money laundering.
